Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted December 15, 2019 Journalists Share Posted December 15, 2019 After setting a new race record in the G3 Saudi Arabia Royal Cup in October, heavy crowd’s pick Salios (Jpn) (Heart’s Cry {Jpn}) added another mark to his ledger in the G1 Asahi Hi Futurity S. at Hanshin on Sunday. He covered the 1600 metres in 1:33 flat, lowering the mark set by Danon Premium (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) in 2017 by 0.3 seconds. Sent off at even money, the Silk Racing silksbearer perched in fourth one off the fence as Bien Fait (Jpn) (Kizuna {Jpn}) set the pace. Fanned three deep at the head of the lane, he came calling with his run, passed Bien Fait at the 250 and motored home to win by two lengths. Taisei Vision (Jpn) (Turtle Bowl {Ire}) rallied to take second, a half-length ahead of Gran Rey (Jpn) (Rulership {Jpn}) in third. “He was a lovely horse,” said Ryan Moore, riding on a short-term license since November. The track ran very fast, but he’s a colt that’s not short-paced and he was still very green on the turn, so he should run even faster in the future. He’s a big powerful colt and when I sat on him, you get the impression that he’s very strong already, but he should improve and be even better as he gets older being the size that he is and hopefully he’ll carry on.” A winner on debut in a Tokyo Newcomber event going a mile over firm turf in June, the chestnut returned off a lengthy layoff to claim the G3 Saudi Arabia Royal Cup on Oct. 5. Pedigree Notes The 10th Group 1 winner for his Shadai-based sire, Salios IS out of the 2012 G1 German Oaks heroine Salomina, who has only visited sons of the late Sunday Silence to date. She gave a hint of her ability as a broodmare when her second foal, the two-time winner Salacia (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}), filled the frame in the G2 Rose S. and G3 Epsom Cup. Her last reported foal is a yearling colt by Deep Impact (Jpn).
