Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted December 20, 2019 Journalists Share Posted December 20, 2019 Keeneland’s 2020 Spring Meet stakes schedule features 18 stakes, highlighted by the Apr. 4 $1 million GII Toyota Blue Grass and the $500,000 GI Central Bank Ashland S., and is worth a season record $4.8 million in purse money. The 16-day meet opens Apr. 2 and runs through Apr. 26. Among the races getting purse increases are the GI Maker’s 46 Mile, boosted by $100,000 to $400,000, and the GIII Baird Doubledogdare S. and Giant’s Causeway S., each enhanced by $50,000 to $150,000. “The opening of Keeneland’s Spring Meet is one of those dates horsemen and fans alike annually circle on theircalendars; it generates tremendous excitement given the depth of quality and competition,” Keeneland President and CEO Bill Thomason said. “We are delighted to offer the purse increases, especially for the Maker’s 46 Mile, which further emphasizes the race’s significance among turf stars early in the season.” In addition to the Classic preps on the Apr. 4 card, Keeneland will also host the GI Madison S., GII Shakertown S. and GIII Commonwealth S. The following day’s card features the GII Appalachian S. and GIII Beaumont S. Other meet highlights include the Apr. 11 GI Coolmore Jenny Wiley S. and GIII Stonestreet Lexington S.
