Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted January 4, 2020 Journalists Share Posted January 4, 2020 It’s no secret that racing had a tough year in 2019. We asked a cross-section of participants what their number one goal is to make racing better in 2020. (Want to participate? Email suefinley@thetdn.com) CONRAD BANDOROFF, VICE PRESIDENT, DENALI STUD: My number one goal for racing in the launch of this new decade is simple: stop talking and start doing. For years we have debated and discussed the challenges facing our industry ad nauseam, only to continue to propose changes with failure to follow through and implement into action. I believe that the end of 2019 saw great progress with the formation of the Safety Coalition, and I think that it is wonderful to see an organization such as the Breeders’ Cup stepping up to fill a leadership role that is much needed. Through expansion of the coalition and getting more and more parties to come to the table, I am optimistic that we may, at long-last, have found a platform for effectuating meaningful change for our sport. I agree with Jeff Bloom that uniform medication rules across all jurisdictions is long overdue and is something that should be addressed in this new year. As an industry, I hope that we can all build off the momentum of 2019 in a collective effort to make the necessary changes to racing. As Benjamin Franklin once said: “Well done is better than well said.” It is time for us to follow that credo before it’s too late.
