Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 19, 2018 Journalists Share Posted May 19, 2018 Comin’ Through (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) became the second Group 1 winner for his dam Mica’s Pride (Aus) (Bite The Bullet), joining the former Australia Horse of the Year Criterion (NZ) (Sebring {Aus}), when he nipped his Chris Waller stablemate Egg Tart (Aus) (Sebring {Aus}) in Saturday’s G1 Doomben Cup. The 4-year-old gelding flew the flag on a great day for Fastnet Rock, who was the broodmare sire of the winner of Australia’s other Group 1 race on Saturday, Santa Ana Lane (Aus) (Lope de Vega {Aus}) in the Goodwood S., as well as being the sire of the second there, Missrock (Aus). Comin’ Through had been threatening to do just as his name suggests throughout this prep, knocking on the door on multiple occasions in Group 1 company. Third behind Endless Drama (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) and Global Glamour (Aus) (Star Witness {Aus}) in the G2 Apollo S. to start the campaign, he picked up a win in the G2 Ajax S. before running second in the G1 Doncaster H. Wheeling back a week later, he was fifth behind Winx (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}) in the G1 Queen Elizabeth S., but perhaps lost the confidence of some punters when just sixth in the G2 Hollindale S. at the Gold Coast on May 5. Comin’ Through didn’t make his breakthrough win easy on himself or his rider in the end, coming six wide off the bend and trying to lug in on Egg Tart through the stretch. He found the lead inside the final furlong, however, and hit the wire a neck in front. Pedigree Notes… Comin’ Through is the 35th Group 1 winner for Fastnet Rock, but due credit must also be given to his Group 3-winning dam Mica’s Pride, who has produced four stakes winners. In addition to Criterion and Comin’ Through there are the fillies Silently (Aus) (Anabaa) and Varenna Miss (Aus) (Redoute’s Choice {Aus}). The former took the Listed James HB Carr S., while the latter is a dual group winner who was fourth in both the BTC Cup and Oakleigh Plate. Comin’ Through, being a gelding, will not follow Criterion into the breeding shed, and neither will the mare’s next produce, Follow On (Aus), a gelded 3-year-old son of Pierro (Aus), but she has a 2-year-old colt full-brother to Comin’ Through to follow, and last year produced a full-sister to Criterion.
