Gladiator King (Curlin) made it two wins from two outings at the Dubai World Cup Carnival, adding victory in Thursday’s G3 Al Shindagha Sprint to a score in the G3 Dubawi S. on opening night of the carnival on Jan. 2. The 4-year-old, who had won the GIII Hutcheson S. at Gulfstream Park last spring before being sold privately to Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi and transferred to leading local trainer Satish Seemar, denied Doug O’Neill’s Truck Salesman (Can The Man) by three-quarters of a length. Gladiator King broke swiftly on the rail and moved out a couple paths to track I Kirk (Swe) (Eishin Dunkirk) and Truck Salesman, and while Truck Salesman looked briefly to have stolen the race in the lane, Gladiator King eventually wore him down inside the final furlong.
