In this new series we sit down with a selection of Europeans making a significant impression in the Thoroughbred industry on foreign shores. Today we hear from Lesley Campion.

Position: Account Manager at Paramount Sales.

Original Hometown: Adare, Co. Limerick, Ireland.

Current Hometown: Midway, Kentucky.

Thing you miss most about Ireland (not including family and friends): Probably the great standard of food and easy proximity to beautiful beaches.

Hidden Talent: I’m not the worst cook in the world, years of Ted’s sideline critiquing have helped me move up my game.

Person in the industry you admire the most: There are plenty, but I think for uncommon work ethic and professionalism, as well as results, it would be Mike Ryan. He always remembers the groom’s name, he’s always quick to congratulate others, and he’s always humble in victory.

Three dinner guests: Alex Trebek, I’m a huge Jeopardy fan and would thoroughly enjoy his stories and wit. John Nerud for horse sense and wisdom. And I’m bringing Pat Costello to guarantee it’s a fun evening!

Best thing about a career in the Thoroughbred industry: Bringing along horses so they can realize their full potential, working with like-minded people and traveling the world doing a job that is never work.

Favourite racehorse: Lantern Lodge was a chaser my parents had with Paddy Mullins in the 80s. He was ridden to some fantastic victories by Tony Mullins, and gave my family great days out and wonderful memories.

Piece of advice for someone starting out: As soon as you can possibly afford to, get some skin in the fight. It will keep your head in the game like no other.
