Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted February 1, 2020 Journalists Share Posted February 1, 2020 Looking to run her record to a perfect four-for-four, TONALIST’S SHAPE (f, 3, Tonalist-Hitecnhoweenie, by Harlan’s Holiday) was more workmanlike than she was brilliant, but asserted her superiority in the final half-furlong to become her sire (by Tapit)’s first graded-stakes winner in Saturday’s GIII Forward Gal S. at Gulfstream Park. Starting from the widest post in the compact field of six, the 3-10 chalk off her blowout success in the Hut Hut S. last time out began without incident, but was beaten for speed on the cutback in distance and was hustled along before settling in a share of third while posted three wide. Gradually working her way into contention while still deep on the turn, Tonalist’s Shape looped rivals three abreast at the quarter pole and drew clear in the final stages to score by about three lengths. Street of Dreams (Street Sense) completed a chalky exacta while first-starter Nikki and Papa (Mineshaft) veered in sharply at the break, spotting her rivals a half-dozen lengths, and ran on gamely to earn graded black-type on debut.
