Another popular Victorian racing country carnival has had its meetings cut because of COVD-19 restrictions.

The three-day meeting at Swan Hill, scheduled for June 5, 6 and 7, has been reduced to one day, June 7.

It follows the reduction of May’s three-day Warrnambool carnival to two days, an all-jumps program on May 5 and a feature flat meeting the following day.

Feature races at Swan Hill will be retained including the Swan Hill Cup (1600m), the Gold Topaz (1200m) and Elvstroem Classic (1300m).

Caulfield Cup winner Elvstroem and his Group One winning half-brother Haradasun both launched their careers at Swan Hill during the three-day carnival.

Swan Hill Jockey Club chief executive Aaron Garvie said it was not ideal having the three-day carnival consolidated into one day in 2020 but with the current COVID-19 restrictions in place it was the correct decision.

Racing Victoria said Donald would now hold the meeting on June 5 while the Apsley Cup will move from June 7 to June 6 and transferred from Edenhope to Casterton.

To restrict travel, Racing Victoria has transferred the Mildura meeting on May 11 to Swan Hill.
