Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 9, 2020 Journalists Share Posted May 9, 2020 HYPERFOCUS (c, 2, Constitution–Discreet Meating, by Hat Trick {Jpn}) became the 50th winner for his second-crop sire, who scored both of his top-level victories at Gulfstream for winning trainer Todd Pletcher. Sent off at 5-2 in this career bow, the $100,000 KEESEP purchase raced off the fence on mid-pack as Breakthrough (Nyquist) and Peppi (Cajun Breeze) dueled through a swift first quarter in :22.07. Aggressively ridden by Irad Ortiz, Jr, the bay ranged up outside the top two turning for home. Breakthrough called it a day in the lane and Peppi put up a mild fight, but Hyperfocus swept past in the final sixteenth and kicked clear to score in :52.63. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0. O-Repole Stable; B-Mike & Jill Heitzmann & WinStar Farm LLC (KY); T-Todd Pletcher.
