Shamardal’s Shaman takes advantage as Sottsass fails to fire

In another unexpected reversal on ParisLongchamp’s season-opener, White Birch Farm’s G1 Prix du Jockey Club hero Sottsass (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) was only fourth in the G2 Prix d’Harcourt as the Wertheimers’ Shaman (Ire) (Shamardal) made all for an upset. Runner-up in the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois over a mile at Deauville last term, the 13-2 shot had previously shown encouraging form over further than a mile when winning the nine-furlong G3 Prix la Force here at this track in April but had stamina to prove upped to this 10-furlong distance for the first time. Maxime Guyon was able to dictate steady fractions on the homebred and after turning back Simona (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) in the straight earned the success by 3/4 of a length from the stalwart Way To Paris (GB) (Champs Elysees {GB}), with Simona a short neck back in third. Sottsass, who looked laboured on the ground, was a further length away.
