MAXFIELD (c, 3, Street Sense–Velvety, by Bernardini) remained undefeated with a late-rallying victory in the GIII Matt Winn S. at Churchill Downs Saturday. Away well from post 10, the Godolphin homebred relaxed back off the pace as Celtic Striker (Congrats), Ny Traffic (Cross Traffic) and Pneumatic (Uncle Mo) battled through a :23.98 opening quarter. Eighth, but just a few lengths off the leader through a half in :48.21, the bay inched up a bit while six wide turning for home as Celtic Striker called it a day. Maxfield set his sights on the remaining pacesetters, Ny Traffic and Pneumatic, in the lane and ran them down in the final sixteenth, cruising clear with ears pricked in 1:43.05. Ny Traffic held second over Pneumatic. A debut winner going a mile beneath the Twin Spires Sept. 14, Maxfield romped in the GI Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity S. at Keeneland Oct. 5. Lifetime Record: 3-3-0-0.

O/B-Godolphin (KY); T-Brendan Walsh.
