Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 25, 2020 Journalists Posted May 25, 2020 The actual post-time favorite at 9-5 over Union Maiden (Union Rags), Gary and Mary West homebred OCEAN BREEZE (f, 3, Curlin-Oceanwave, by Harlan’s Holiday) powered away from her rivals to graduate by about seven lengths Monday at Churchill. Quickly into stride from her high draw, Ocean Breeze settled in an early fifth and got under way in earnest three wide at the half-mile. Cruising up while traveling well nearing the stretch, she was cut loose by Martin Garcia to take over three-sixteenths out and galloped home a facile winner. Stonestreet firster Raison d’Etre (Medaglia d’Oro), an $825,000 OBS April acquisition, attended the pace and held well for second at a chilly-on-the-board 14-1. Union Maiden missed the break by a length or so, was checked at the back of the leading group nearing the turn and finished well in the lane to be a very good third. Ocean Breeze was exiting a debut fourth in the Oaklawn slop Apr. 19 in which she rushed up after a slow dispatch from the inside stall and crossed the line fourth to the promising Merneith (American Pharoah). Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-0. O/B-Gary & Mary West (KY); T-Wayne Catalano.
