Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 5, 2020 Journalists Share Posted June 5, 2020 6th-SA, $50K, Msw, 3yo/up, 6 1/2f, 6:03 p.m. ETCEZANNE (Curlin), the second-highest-priced 2-year-old to sell at public auction when bringing $3.65 million (:10) at last year’s Fasig-Tipton March sale, makes his long-awaited debut after a string of works highlighted by a bullet :47 3/5 half (1/47) last Saturday. Sharing a name with the French post-impressionist artist, the colt looks to match his career to the masterpiece that is his pedigree. Third dam, 2007 Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour (Deputy Minister), sold for a world-record $14 million at Fasig-Tipton after producing consecutive GI Belmont S. winners in Jazil (Seeking the Gold) and Rags to Riches (A.P. Indy). Fourth dam Blush With Pride (Blushing Groom {Fr}) won the GI Kentucky Oaks, fifth dam Best in Show (Traffic Judge) was also a Broodmare of the Year, and the list of this sire-making and top-level performing family goes on. Closer up, Cezanne has two stakes-winning half-siblings in Counterforce (Smart Strike) and Arabian Hope (Distorted Humor), who is also G1SP-Eng, plus a yearling full-sister. The bay makes his debut in the Magnier/Tabor/Smith colors for trainer Bob Baffert, who also trained the colt’s dam’s half-sister, GISW Streaming (Smart Strike).
