Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 6, 2020 Journalists Share Posted June 6, 2020 The only other horse in the six-strong field that the bettors wanted outside of odds-on Authentic (Into Mischief), HONOR A.P. (c, 3, Honor Code–Hollywood Story, by Wild Rush) launched into action four wide into the stretch and powered home a convincing winner of Saturday’s GI Santa Anita Derby. While the chalk, whose greenness has been on display frequently thus far in his career, broke badly outward, Honor A.P. was smoothly into stride and settled in the second flight of horses, as Shooters Shoot (Competitive Edge) cut out the early fractions with Authentic three wide and facing the breeze down the backstretch. Drayden Van Dyke asked Authentic for some accleration three furlongs down and they poked a head in front, but Honor A.P. had stalked that one wherever he went, with the benefit of cover, and it was all over when he was pulled out widest into the lane. Honor A.P., an $850,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling purchase, quickly claimed Authentic with big, rolling strides and proved a comfortable winner, then galloped out as if crying out for a Derby trip. Rushie (Liam’s Map) ran on for third. Honor A.P. is the first Grade I winner and second graded winner overall for Lane’s End’s Honor Code. Lifetime Record: 4-2-2-0. O-C R K Stable; B-George Krikorian (KY); T-John Shirreffs. The post Honor Code’s Honor A.P. Equal To Task in Santa Anita Derby appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
