Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 10, 2020 Journalists Share Posted June 10, 2020 Kentucky Derby hopeful and Godolphin homebred Maxfield (Street Sense) suffered a condylar fracture in his right front leg this morning and is now out of training for this year’s Kentucky Derby. The Brendan Walsh trainee worked this morning at Keeneland, breezing four furlongs in :49.0. “He has a condylar fracture, right front,” said Brendan Walsh in a text this morning. “Gone for surgery. Hope to get more news when he gets through surgery.” Maxfield showed promise early on as a juvenile when he broke his maiden at first asking in September at Churchill Downs. Next out he took the GI Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland soundly by over five lengths. A favorite going into the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, an ankle chip forced the colt to drop out of contention days before the race. Last month, Maxfield staked his claim as a top three-year-old when he won the GIII Winn S. It was announced earlier this week on June 8 that Walsh would not be pointing his star towards the GI Belmont S., this year’s first leg of the Triple Crown, but would instead look towards the GII Toyota Blue Grass S. on July 11. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
