Bidding on behalf of Heider Family Stables, bloodstock agent Donato Lanni went to $950K for THOUGHTFULLY (Tapit) at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale and the March foal bay takes her first step towards repaying that investment here. The dark bay was bred by Gainesway from Passion (Seeking the Gold), dam of GSW Annual Report (Harlan’s Holiday) and MSW Giant Payday (Giant’s Causeway). The filly’s Grade I-winning second dam Furlough (Easy Goer) was responsible for GSW Happy Hunting (Seeking the Gold) and SW Pardoned (Elusive Quality), while the third dam includes such Phipps luminaries as champion Heavenly Prize (Seeking the Gold), GISW Fantastic Find (Mr. Prospector) and the latter’s MGISW Finder’s Fee (Storm Cat). Thoughtfully was her sire’s highest-priced filly sold in 2019 and fourth most expensive overall. American Indy (American Pharoah) is a half-sister to GISW Joking (Distorted Humor) and fetched $225K as a weanling at FTKNOV in 2018. Her stakes-winning dam Spun Silk (A.P. Indy) is a half-sister to MGSW/MGISP sire Fed Biz (Giant’s Causeway), while her rich third dam includes champions Minardi (Danzig) and Johannesburg (Hennessy) and the reliable Tale of the Cat (Storm Cat). Jay Em Ess homebred UNCLE MOONLIGHT (Uncle Mo) gets his career underway for trainer Michelle Nevin and will try to follow in the hoofprints of his New York-bred dam By the Light (Malibu Moon), who graduated by 6 1/4 lengths at first asking over 5 1/2 furlongs of this main track before becoming a nine-time stakes winner and Grade I-placed in the Prioress S. The colt’s half-sister By the Moon (Indian Charlie) was also a debut winner before adding the GI Ballerina S. in 2017 for Nevin, while By the Light’s son Wonderful Light (Tiz Wonderful) needed just three tries to break his maiden and was runner-up in last year’s GIII Fall Highweight H.
