Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 12, 2020 Journalists Share Posted June 12, 2020 There were a few nervous moments for connections of Siskin (First Defence) in the closing stages of Friday’s G1 Irish 2000 Guineas at The Curragh, but Khalid Abdullah’s unbeaten G2 Railway S. and G1 Phoenix S. winner ultimately made his class tell as he dismissed the Ballydoyle contingent. Held up by Colin Keane in mid-division on the rail, the 2-1 favourite was boxed in for a brief period approaching the final two furlongs but once extricated cut down Lope Y Fernandez (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) with 150 yards remaining before stamping his superiority. At the line, the homebred had 1 3/4 lengths to spare over Vatican City (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who was possibly unlucky not to have finished closer, with Lope Y Fernandez close behind in third. 1–SISKIN, 128, c, 3, by First Defence1st Dam: Bird Flown (GB), by Oasis Dream (GB)2nd Dam: Silver Star (GB), by Zafonic3rd Dam: Monroe, by Sir Ivor O-Khalid Abdullah; B-Juddmonte Farms Inc (KY); T-Ger Lyons; J-Colin Keane. €142,500.
