Easy Win for Tom’s d’Etat in the GII Stephen Foster

TOM’S D’ETAT (7, h, Smart Strike–Julia Tuttle, by Giant’s Causeway) came from just off the pace to win Churchill’s GII Stephen Foster S., a Breeders’ Cup ‘Win and You’re in’ for the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Allowing longshot Pirate’s Punch (Shanghai Bobby) to dictate terms through initial fractions of :23.89 and :48.15, the 7-year-old overtook the pacesetter on the far turn following six furlongs in 1:11.67. Two lengths in front turning for home, the 6-5 choice continued to draw clear late, crossing the wire four lengths ahead of By My Standard (Goldencents).
