The hard luck story is Laver. Royally bred by Art Major out of Dunn’s brilliant 16-race winner Venus Serena Laver has been the “nearly” horse this season. In 17 starts the three-year-old’s has just the one win, but has never finished further back than 5th. So often he’s been the victim of tough draws and tough runs. On Friday he hasn’t fared well either, drawn one on the second row. He is likely to be three back the fence at best. “He’ll need some luck,” says Dunn. Ricky May will take over from usual drivers Gerard O’Reilly and Tim Williams. This will be his last run before a spell, and the same applies to Tiebreaker, who made it three wins from 17 starts, at Addington last Friday. It was the son of Mach Three’s first win since April last year. Like Laver he’s drawn one off the second row. And showing no signs of needing a let up is Doctor Tim. Race 7 on Friday will be his 40th for the season. The six-year-old son of Bettor’s Delight has won seven of 80 with Dunn saying he’s expecting an improved effort on his last start seventh.
