‘Tremendous’ Tonk to roar: Watchdog

Form expert The Watchdog has gone out on a limb, tipping Shima Shine to miss a place in Friday night’s Group 2 Triple M Bendigo Cup.

Shima Shine spectacularly broke the 425m track record in a Bendigo Cup heat on Sunday, clocking 23.35sec, but he’ll need to overcome Box 5 in the $50,000 to-the-winner final.

The Watchdog’s top selection is Tiggerlong Tonk, who clocked 23.47sec in his heat and is drawn next to Shima Shine in Box 6.

“Tiggerlong Tonk is a tremendous chaser and he should get the room he needs in the early stages,” The Watchdog said of the reigning Horsham Cup winner.

The Watchdog is predicting Hard Style Rico, winner of the 2020 Shepparton Cup, to get “the gun run” from Box 2, and has selected him for second.

He has selected “likely leader” Speed Star to hang on for third ahead of his kennelmate Shima Shine.
