Deep Impact’s Fancy Blue Prevails in the Diane

Sunday’s G1 Prix de Diane Longines was a thriller, as Michael Tabor’s June 13 G1 Irish 1000 Guineas runner-up Fancy Blue (Ire) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) denied the G1 Coronation S. heroine Alpine Star (Ire) (Sea the Moon {Ger}) and her Curragh Classic conqueror Peaceful (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in a nip-and-tuck finale. Content to shadow Alpine Star who was placed on the front end by Stephane Pasquier, she edged ahead with 300 metres remaining and clung on in a finish that also involved Raabihah (Sea the Stars {Ire}). Just a short neck separated Fancy Blue, who was 6-1 and was ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot, and the 2-1 favourite Alpine Star at the line, with two heads between Peaceful and Raabihah.
