Make Believe’s Mishriff Takes the Jockey Club

Chantilly’s G1 Prix du Jockey Club went to Britain on Sunday, with Prince Faisal’s June 6 Listed Newmarket S. winner Mishriff (Ire) (Make Believe {GB}) landing the spoils for the John Gosden stable. Ridden forward from his draw by Ioritz Mendizabal, the homebred enjoyed a perfect tow throughout the early stages from the leading duo in front. Denied a gap inside the final two furlongs, the 15-2 shot had to switch and when freed hit the front 100 metres from the finish before asserting for a 1 3/4-length defeat of The Summit (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}), with the G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains hero Victor Ludorum (GB) (Shamardal) a neck behind in third after missing the break.
