Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 11, 2020 Journalists Share Posted July 11, 2020 ‘TDN Rising Star’ GUARANA (f, 4, Ghostzapper–Magical World, by Distorted Humor) had shown plenty of talent in her career, but Saturday at Keeneland she showed her heart, battling back after being passed in deep stretch to gamely capture the GI Madison S., giving trainer Chad Brown his 100th career Grade I victory. Last summer’s GI Acorn S. and GI Coaching Club American Oaks heroine, Guarana finished her season with a runner-up in the GI Cotillion S. and resurfaced with an easy allowance victory in the Churchill slop June 4. Hammered down to 1-2 returning to the site of her 14 3/4-length debut victory here, the bay found herself on the lead and led narrowly through reasonable fractions of :22.95 and :45.92. Challenged to her outside by multiple Grade I winner Mia Mischief (Into Mischief), Guarana was overtaken by that rival a furlong from home, but battled back soon after and regained control in the final sixteenth to score by a fairly comfortable half-length in 1:21.70. Lifetime Record: 6-5-1-0, $1,078,268. O-Three Chimneys Farm & Hill ‘n’ Dale Equine Holdings; B-Three Chimneys Farm LLC (KY); T-Chad Brown.
