Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 11, 2020 Journalists Share Posted July 11, 2020 Allen Stable’s ENOLA GAY (f, 3, Uncle Mo–Dakota Queen, by War Front), ambitiously placed in Saturday’s GII Appalachian S. at Keeneland off an eight-month layoff, didn’t look like a winner until the final jump, but just got up on the wire to pull a mild upset in the mile event for sophomore filly turfers. Rallying to sharp debut victory last September at Kentucky Downs, the homebred ran on mildly to be fourth in the Stewart Manor S. when last seen Nov. 10 at Aqueduct and was given a 53-10 chance here. Finding a good spot in third at the rail while just a bit headstrong through a :23.25 quarter and :46.28 half, the bay lost position while driven approachign the lane and was still one-paced as late as the eighth pole while odds-on Alms (Algorithms) and Walk In Marrakesh (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) went at it. Finally starting to find her best stride in the final 100 yards, she dove late to tag Walk In Marrakesh at the finish, with Alms close behind in third. Lifetime Record: 3-2-0-0, $174,000. O/B-Joseph Allen Stable (KY); T-Claude R. McGaughey.
