Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 11, 2020 Journalists Share Posted July 11, 2020 ART COLLECTOR (c, 3, Bernardini–Distorted Legacy, by Distorted Humor), twice a comprehensive winner against lesser company, proved his mettle versus graded stakes competition with a victory in the GII Toyota Blue Grass S. Saturday at Keeneland to essentially punch his ticket to the GI Kentucky Derby. Starting his career with three races on turf, the Bruce Lunsford homebred dominated a sloppy optional claimer for Joe Sharp that he was later disqualified from Nov. 30 at Churchill. Switched to this barn over the winter, he rallied to a victory in a similar spot May 17 in Louisville before cruising by 6 1/2 lengths with a 100 Beyer when stretched out to two turns there June 13. Let go as a fractional 23-10 chalk here, the bay broke well and stalked the speed of filly Swiss Skydiver (Daredevil) in the clear through honest fractions of :23.25 and :46.61. Those two separated from the pack hitting the top of the lane and went toe to toe before Art Collector proved superior at the sixteenth pole and drew clear to a three-length tally. Swiss Skydiver was well clear for second, while Rushie (Liam’s Map) won a photo for show. Lifetime Record: 8-4-1-0, $548,475. O/B-Bruce Lunsford (KY); T-Thomas Drury.
