The highly regarded Volatile (c, 4, Violence–Melody Lady, by Unbridled’s Song), the recipient of a 112 Beyer Speed Figure in a jaw-dropping win in Churchill’s Aristides S. June 6, registered his first career win at the top level in Saturday’s GI Alfred G. Vanderbilt H. at Saratoga.

Down to just a field of four following the gate scratch of the rail-drawn Lexitonian (Speightstown), the 2-5 favorite took control from the initiative and showed the way through a shockingly easy opening quarter of :23.46. Volatile held a narrow advantage as they turned for home, was given his cue with a shake or two of the reins by Ricardo Santana, Jr. in the stretch, and responded from there with a 1 1/4-length decision for his fourth straight score.

Whitmore (Pleasantly Perfect) was a good second after breaking through the gate prior to the start; Mind Control (Stay Thirsty) was third.

The final time for six furlongs was 1:09.61.

Volatile is the 24th Grade I winner for broodmare sire Unbridled’s Song.

Volatile’s second dam Lady Tak (Mutakddim) was a two-time Grade I winner at Saratoga for Steve Asmussen.

Sales history: $850,000 yrl ’17 KEESEP.

Lifetime Record: 6-5-1-0.
