More Than Ready’s Catholic Boy Comes Out on Top of Strangely Run Pennine Ridge

CATHOLIC BOY (c, 3, More Than Ready–Song of Bernadette, by Bernardini) came out on top of a very strangely run renewal of the GIII Pennine Ridge S. at Belmont Park Saturday, as he came back on previously unbeaten Analyze It (Point of Entry) to get the job done in 1:45.78. Channel Cat (English Channel) was a distant third. Last year’s GIII With Anticipation S. and GII Remsen S. winner hadn’t been seen since finishing fourth in the GI Florida Derby Mar. 31, and was off at 4-1 after getting a stiff warm-up from first-time pilot Javier Castellano. Sent right to the front to seize command from the usually speedy Analyze It, Catholic Boy found a comfortable rhythm up front until the odds-on chalk came to tackle him in upper stretch. The pair bumped as Analyze It seized command and came over on Catholic Boy, but Catholic Boy wasn’t done yet and he re-broke to get up late from the leg-weary leader. Lifetime Record: 7-4-1-0.
