Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 3, 2018 Journalists Share Posted June 3, 2018 HAWKISH (g, 3, Artie Schiller–Bridal Memories, by Unbridled), the extremely talented ‘TDN Rising Star’ who still appears to have some growing up to do, got the first graded stakes victory of his auspicious career Saturday in the lucrative GII Penn Mile. A debut winner at Gulfstream Jan. 6, the bay was fourth with a tricky trip in that venue’s GIII Palm Beach S. Mar. 3, but returned to winning ways with a convincing score at Aqueduct Apr. 15. He’d been bought into by Robert LaPenta before the Palm Beach and by Madaket Stables prior to that last start, and those connections had already had a successful day at Belmont with Catholic Boy (More Than Ready)’s win in the GIII Pennine Ridge S. Made the 7-5 chalk here, Hawkish was squeezed out of a spot early and found himself well off a solid pace. He came with a sweeping run turning for home, and galloped past foes with giant strides before running up the score by some five lengths at the line despite struggling a bit to stay straight. Longshot Way Early (Tizway) rallied for second and Coltandmississipi (Pioneerof the Nile) further spiced up the trifecta. The winning time was 1:35.16. Lifetime Record: 4-3-0-0. O-Robert V.
