Sent off the 2-1 favorite, Chief Cicatriz (g, 5, Munnings–Super Buggy, by Grand Slam) chased the pace three wide, swept up deep on the track to challenge at the quarter pole and pulled away to post a facile 6 1/4-length success in Saturday’s GIII Aristides S. on the Downs After Dark program at Churchill. ‘TDN Rising Star’ Mr Crow (Tapizar) ran on nicely for second ahead of Wilbo (Candy Ride {Arg}) in third. The homebred was the toast of the desert southwest early in his career and was a two-time winner of the Phoenix Gold Cup prior to stepping up to the big leagues.for his latest, a respectable fifth to horse for the course Limousine Liberal (Successful Appeal) in a sloppy-track renewal of the GII Churchill Downs S. on the Derby undercard four weeks ago. The ninth graded winner for Munnings, Chief Cicatriz is therefore bred 3×3 to Gone West. Lifetime Record: 11-8-0-0. O/B-Roy Gene Evans (KY); T-Shawn H Davis.
