Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted August 16, 2020 Journalists Share Posted August 16, 2020 Godolphin homebred Antoinette (f, 3, Hard Spun–Shuruq, by Elusive Quality) set the all the pace and held off Stunning Sky (Declaration of War) in the dying strides to score a half-length victory in the Saratoga Oaks Sunday. The bay filly, sent off at 5-1, was pressed by favored Enola Gay (Uncle Mo) through an opening quarter in :23.94, but had gained some separation from that keenly running rival through a quarter in :48.87. Enola Gay reengaged the pacesetter approaching the stretch with Stunning Sky just to her outside. Antoinette had shrugged off Enola Gay by midstretch before resolutely holding off Stunning Sky down to the wire. A maiden winner over the Belmont lawn last October, Antoinette concluded her juvenile campaign with a win in the off-turf Tepin S. She finished third in her previous four races this term, opening the year in the Mar. 21 GII Fair Grounds Oaks and May 1 Gardenia S. over the main track before moving back to the turf in the June 20 GIII Wonder Again S. She was back on the dirt to finish 4 3/4 lengths adrift of Paris Lights (Curlin) in the July 18 GI Coaching Club American Oaks last time out. Lifetime Record: 8-3-0-4. O/B-Godolphin (Ky).
