Former G1 Melbourne Cup runner-up Max Dynamite (Fr) (Great Journey {Jpn}) has been retired from racing at 10 years of age and after a career on both the flat and over jumps, his trainer Willie Mullins tweeted on Thursday. Campaigned by Susannah and Rich Ricci, Max Dynamite won five of 44 starts and earned in excess of £1-million. Stakes-placed at three, Max Dynamite was at his best at five when he won the G2 Lonsdale S. and finished second by a half-length in the Melbourne Cup. He would go on to run third two years later in the ‘Race That Stops A Nation’ behind Rekindling (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}). Max Dynamite’s last win came at Killarney last July. He was pulled up during a Cork hurdle earlier this month.

Mullins tweeted, “Max Dynamite has been retired. The international traveller in our yard, topped by his 2nd (’15) & 3rd (’17) in the Melbourne Cup. He has been a pleasure to train & earned over £1m for Suzanna & Rich Ricci. Special thanks to Jimmy Kelly for his expert care over the last 7 years.”
