Fasig-Tipton-Winner-Logo.jpgFavored at 7-5 to remain perfect in three trips to the post, Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt’s YAUPON (c, 3, Uncle Mo–Modification, by Vindication) set a fast pace over a rain-affected track that remains very firm and proved not for catching in the GII Amsterdam S., defeating his former stablemate Basin (Liam’s Map) by about two lengths. Premier Star (Tapiture) was a non-threatening third. A debut winner at Churchill Downs June 20, Yaupon was exiting a geared-down allowance success over this main track July 18 for which he earned a lofty 101 Beyer Speed Figure. A $350,000 Keeneland September yearling graduate, Yaupon was bought back on a bid of $485,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Sale and was hammered down to these connections for $255,000 at the OBS June Sale. It was the second graded winner on the program for Uncle Mo, who is now the sire of 64 BTWs and 35 graded winners, 11 this year. O-Bill & Corinne Heiligbrodt; B-Betz, Lamantia, CoCo Equine, Magers & Burns (KY); T-Steve Asmussen.
