Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted September 5, 2020 Journalists Share Posted September 5, 2020 Having toyed with the idea of a run in the GI Kentucky Derby later on the program, connections ultimately opted for Saturday’s GII Pat Day Mile S. for RUSHIE (c, 3, Liam’s Map–Conquest Angel, by Colonel John) and the decision paid off handsomely, as the gray colt parlayed a stalking trip off the pace into a relatively easy victory over Sonneman (Curlin). Tap It To Win (Tapit) was an alibi-free third. Away in good order from the outside stall, the $70,000 OBS March grad settled fifth early but worked his way up to third and deep as Vertical Threat (Tapiture) set the pace from a hard-held Tap It To Win. Coasting up outside those two nearing the stretch, Rushie was roused to the lead at the three-sixteenths and ran out a convincing winner. Sonneman rallied from well back to complete the exacta. Third to Derby second favorite Honor A.P. (Honor Code) in the GI Santa Anita Derby June 6, Rushie was cutting back to one turn off an even third to Art Collector (Bernardini) in the GII Toyota Blue Grass S. July 11. He is the fifth SW and third graded winner for his Lane’s End-based stallion. O-Jim & Donna Daniell; B-Ocala Stud (FL); T-Mike McCarthy. Saturday, Churchill DownsPAT DAY MILE S.
