Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted October 4, 2020 Journalists Share Posted October 4, 2020 Valiance (f, 4, Tapit-Last Full Measure, by Empire Maker) overtook pacesetting sophomore Shedaresthedevil (Daredevil) at midstretch and held off Ollie’s Candy (Candy Ride {Arg}) late to win the GI Juddmonte Spinster S. and earn an automatic berth in the GI Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Keeneland Sunday. The 6-1 shot rated just off the pace while three wide as 6-5 favorite Shedaresthedevil, coming off a win in the GI Kentucky Oaks, tugged her way through fractions of :23.62 and :46.97. With Ollie’s Candy bottled up to her inside, Valiance had clear running room to engage the pacesetter in upper stretch. Once she found running room, Ollie’s Candy was reeling in the gray filly, but Valiance held on to win by 3/4 lengths. The time for the nine furlongs was 1:49.76. Valiance, a $650,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga graduate, opened her career with three straight wins over the turf last year, including a tally in the Open Mind S. at Monmouth Park in June. Off the board in her first two 2020 starts, she took an optional claimer over the lawn at Colonial Downs July 28 and was coming off a win in the off-turf Eatontown S. at Monmouth Aug. 29.
