Into Mischief Colt Flies Home in Bourbon

Shadwell Stable’s Mutasaabeq (c, 2, Into Mischief-Downside Scenario, by Scat Daddy), most recently third over the main track in the Sept. 7 GI Hopeful S., got his graded tally over the lawn Sunday at Keeneland with a late-flying victory in the GII Dixiana Bourbon S., a Win and You’re in Race for the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. Sent off at 2-1, the bay colt was away slowly and tarried at the back of the field. Still last after three-quarters in 1:12.24, he uncorked a powerful stretch run from the center of the course, bounding to the lead with a furlong to run and pulling clear to win by three lengths. Abarta (Into Mischief) was second and Nathan Detroit (Union Rags) was third. The time for the 1 1/16 miles was 1:43.13.
Mutasaabeq, a $425,000 Keeneland November weanling purchase, opened his career with a 4 1/2-length victory going 5 1/2 furlongs over the main track at Saratoga Aug. 8. He was third, beaten 12 1/2 lengths by the impressive Jackie’s Warrior (Maclean’s Music), in the Hopeful last time out.
