Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 9, 2018 Journalists Share Posted June 9, 2018 Champion ABEL TASMAN (f, 4, Quality Road–Vargas Girl, by Deputy Minister) got back to her winning ways with a decisive seven-length romp in the GI Ogden Phipps S. early on Belmont Stakes day at Belmont Park. Last year’s champion sophomore filly on the merits of a campaign that saw her win the GI Kentucky Oaks, GI Acorn S. and GI Coaching Club American Oaks, she recently returned from a winter layup to finish a somewhat head-scratching fourth in the GI La Troienne S. Away slowly from the gate here as the even-money chalk, she was quickly asked to move forward with a sweeping wide move and held a narrow advantage through a half-mile in :46.36. She finished strongly from there, shaking off a challenge from Pacific Wind (Curlin) and striding home a much-the-best winner. Ivy Bell (Archarcharch) completed the exacta. The final time was a sharp 1:40.36. Sales History: $65,000 RNA KEESEP yrl ’15. Lifetime Record: Ch. 3yo filly and MGISW, 13-7-4-0, $2,462,385. O-China Horse Club and Clearsky Farms. B-Clearsky Farms (KY). T-Bob Baffert. View the full article
