Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 9, 2018 Journalists Share Posted June 9, 2018 SPRING QUALITY (g, 6, Quality Road–Spring Star, by Deputy Minister) made the last move the winning one with a swooping score in the GI Manhattan S. Saturday at Belmont. The George Strawbridge homebred didn’t get on turf until October of last year but broke through with a graded stakes score in just his second try over the sod in the GIII Red Smith H. Nov. 11. Laid up for a half-year, he returned in the GIII Fort Marcy S. over this course and finished a close second behind reopposing Robert Bruce (Fast Company {Ire}). Allowed to lag well off the pace here as an 18-1 chance as a slew of horses tussled for command through six furlongs in 1:12 flat, he launched an outside bid on the far turn and followed a rally by Sadler’s Joy (Kitten’s Joy) in the lane. Staying on well in the final furlong down the center of the course, he just got up in a blanket finish to nab that rival by a nose in a blanket finish. Lifetime Record: GISW, 11-6-3-0, $925,797. O-Augustin Stable. B-George Strawbridge Jr (PA). T-Graham Motion. View the full article
