Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted October 21, 2020 Journalists Share Posted October 21, 2020 Tiznow (Cee’s Tizzy–Cee’s Song, by Seattle Song), the Horse of the Year in 2000 and the only horse to post multiple victories in the GI Breeders’ Cup Classic, has been pensioned from stallion duties at WinStar Farm. Bred in California by Cecilia Straub Rubens and trained by Jay Robbins, Tiznow won eight of his 15 career starts, including the GI Super Derby and GII Goodwood Breeders’ Cup H. ahead of a neck defeat of Giant’s Causeway in a Classic for the ages at Churchill in 2000. The five-length winner of the GI Santa Anita H. the following winter, the hulking California-bred returned from a six-month absence to be third in the GI Woodward S. and filled the same spot in defense of his Goodwood title before a stirring success over Sakhee (GB) in the post-9/11 Classic at Belmont. He retired to WinStar with earnings in excess of $6.4 million and was also named the champion 3-year-old of 2000 and champion older male the following season. To date, Tiznow is the sire of 80 black-type winners, including 45 graded/group winners. Among his 14 winners at the highest level are GI Belmont S. upsetter Da’ Tara; G1 Dubai World Cup hero Well Armed; GI Travers S. winner Colonel John; Folklore, who won the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Belmont in 2005; and fellow WinStar stallion Tourist, who landed the GI Breeders’ Cup Mile at Santa Anita in 2016. In addition to Folkore, Tiznow was represented by Sovereign Award winner Bear Now; Blue Chipper, champion sprinter and miler in Korea and third in the 2019 GI Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile; and a pair of champions in Mexico. Tiznow’s producing daughters have accounted for 39 stakes winners, 23 graded winners and seven at Grade I level, including GI Kentucky Derby hero Tiz the Law (Constitution); and Come Dancing (Malibu Moon), a candidate for the GI Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint.
