Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted November 4, 2020 Journalists Share Posted November 4, 2020 A Texas Red yearling sold for $18,200 to Roger Spiess to top the Oct. 31 Indiana Thoroughbred Owners’ and Breeders’ Association (ITOBA) Fall Mixed Sale. The Indiana-bred gelding out of Color Me Special (River Special) was consigned by Dawn Martin. Overall, 69 horses went through the ring. A total of 66 sold for $263,400, giving the sale an average of $3,991 and an RNA rate of only 4%. “While COVID-19 threatened the sale, so many people came together to make it a success,” said ITOBA President Bruce Murphy. “The fact that we only had three horses that didn’t meet their reserve shows that there was strong demand for horses and breeding stock to participate in the Indiana program.” The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic caused the sale to relocate from Indiana Grand Racing and Casino to Smith Training Stables in Fountaintown, Ind.
