Nyquist’s Vequist Upsets Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies

Vequist (f, 2, Nyquist–Vero Amore, by Mineshaft) turned the tables on Dayoutoftheoffice (Into Mischief) to upset Friday’s GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Keeneland. Girl Daddy (Uncle Mo) was third.

The 6-1 chance sat a stalking trip on the inside in third, and shot through an opening along the rail in the stretch beneath Joel Rosario to win going away by two lengths.

Vequist, a runaway winner of Saratoga’s GI Spinaway S., was runner-up behind Dayoutoftheoffice in the GI Frizette S. at Belmont Park Oct. 10.

Vequist’s leading freshman sire Nyquist won the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Keeneland five years ago.
