‘TDN Rising Star’ Essential Quality (c, Tapit–Delightful Quality, by Elusive Quality) remained unbeaten with a smart off-the-pace victory in Friday’s GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Keeneland. The 7-2 chance sat in midpack as they sizzled through fractions of :22.58 and :45.31. The GI Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity hero began to make his move rounding the far turn, and came charging down the stretch to reel in longshot Hot Rod Charlie (Oxbow) by 3/4 of a length. Keepmeinmind (Laoban) was third. MGISW and 4-5 favorite Jackie’s Warrior (Maclean’s Warrior) reported home fourth after sitting a stalking trip on the hot pace in third. The final time for 1 1/16 miles was 1:42.09. Essential Quality is the sixth Breeders’ Cup winner for leading sire Tapit. Lifetime Record: 3-3-0-0. O/B-Godolphin (Ky); T-Brad Cox.
