Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted November 7, 2020 Journalists Share Posted November 7, 2020 No horse from Europe had managed to break through in the GI Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint in the 12-year history of the event, but Bearstone Stud homebred GLASS SLIPPERS (GB) (f, 4, Dream Ahead–Night Gypsy {GB}, by Mind Games {GB}) got a ground-saving trip, game through a narrow sliver of daylight at the furlong grounds and held off a late rally from 26-1 Wet Your Whistle (Stroll) to land the first blow for Europe in the Turf Sprint and in the first seven races on Breeders’ Cup weekend. Sent off at an enticing 10-1 off a near-miss second in a heavy-ground renewal of the G1 Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp on Arc weekend Oct. 4, Glass Slippers, the mount of jockey Tom Eaves, took up her position slightly worse than midfield as Into Mystic (Into Mischief) set a quick pace from Bombard (War Front) and Texas Wedge (Colonel John). Ridden quietly and with plenty of space around her, Glass Slippers had clear sailing turning for home at the inside, was pulled out into the three path full of run at the eighth pole and ran out a narrow winner as Wet Your Whistle dove home for second. Leinster (Majestic Warrior), favored at 4-1, raced prominently and settled for third. Glass Slipper is the fourth female to beat the boys in the Turf Sprint. Lifetime Record: 17-7-3-1. O/B-Bearstone Stud Limited; T-Kevin Ryan.
