RED FLAG (c, 2, Tamarkuz–Surrender, by Stormy Atlantic) became the first black-type and graded winner for his first-crop sire (by Speightstown) as he aired at 10-1 odds in Del Mar’s GIII Bob Hope S. Sunday. A second-out graduate in a Santa Anita turf sprint Oct. 10, the $220,000 KEESEP yearling was widest of four scrambling on the front end early. The field spread out as one rival checked out abruptly in between horses, but Red Flag never looked back as he crushed his competition by about 10 lengths in 1:23.56. Uncle Boogie (Ride On Curlin) rallied for second over Ambivalent (Constitution). Overwhelming favorite Spielberg (Union Rags) settled for fourth. Sales history: $50,000 wlg ’18 KEENOV; $220,000 ylg ’19 KEESEP.
