Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted December 20, 2020 Journalists Share Posted December 20, 2020 MAXFIELD (c, 3, Street Sense–Velvety, by Bernardini) picked up right where he left off in his return to action in the Tenacious S. at the Fair Grounds Saturday evening, taking his record to a perfect four-for-four. Glued to pacesetting Cool Bobby (Shanghai Bobby)’s outside hip through a :24.63 opening quarter, the 1-2 chalk kept after the leader as the half went in :48.39. The sleek dark bay drew even with Cool Bobby entering the turn and shrugged him off in early stretch, skipping clear for a three-length score in 1:43.35. A debut winner at Churchill Downs in September of last year, Maxfield romped by 5 1/2 lengths in Keeneland’s GI Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity S. last term, making him one of the favorites for the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. He was scratched on the eve of that race and underwent surgery for ankle chips instead. Returning to action in the GIII Matt Winn S. at Churchill May 23, the Godolpin homebred rallied to a one-length victory, but was knocked off the Triple Crown trail after suffering a condylar fracture in his front right leg during a breeze at Keeneland June 10. Lifetime Record: 4-4-0-0. O/B-Godolphin (KY); T-Brendan Walsh.
