Eagle Farm plays host to eight races on Thursday afternoon. The track is currently a Soft 5, but with drying conditions around Brisbane, we can expect to see the first race start a Good 4. The rail is out +6m for the entire circumference of the course. Race 1 is set to face the starter at 1:21pm.

Best Bet – Race 4 #1 Ruddock

Annabel Neasham will leg up leading Sydney hoop, James McDonald aboard Ruddock on Thursday in a fairly weak 3YO Benchmark 70. The son of Written Tycoon was a dominant winner at Gosford two starts back, before combusting under pressure as a hot favourite at Doomben three weeks ago. He should find a bit less pressure here at Eagle Farm and back to the 1400m will help. Jumping from barrier 6, JMac will take the gelding forward and should be good enough to lead from barrier to box.

Next Best – Race 8 #8 Wolf Moon

Wolf Moon is set to step out for the first time since his debut back in May where he was a 3.5L winner at the Sunshine Coast. He’s since been transferred to the Billy Healy yard and was a trial winner at the Gold Coast a week ago for his first hit out for new trainer. He’s never been beaten at the trials or on race day, so he clearly has a will to win. Ryan Maloney is in-form and sticks with him here, which is a big advantage. Barrier 4 will see the son of Wandjina settle right on the back of Gaelic Puzzle, who looks Wolf Moon’s only other competitor.

Best Value – Race 7 #8 King of the Desert

Ben Ahrens’ five-year-old gelding, King of the Desert has been racing in good fashion this campaign, placing in all three starts off the back of two good trial performances. Now fourth-up and staying at the 1200m, he should be peaking in fitness which will help given his on pace running style. Last start, he was all but home before getting grabbed late by Soubrette who simply had a kinder run in transit. He’ll go forward here under Ron Stewart and should prove hard to catch.
