Nine races are set to be run at Townsville on Friday afternoon. The track is currently rated a Heavy 8, with more rain around in the next couple of days. The rail is out +5m from the 1000m to the winning post, and +3m for the remainder of the course. Race 1 will face the starter at 12:37pm.

Best Bet – Race 2 #1 I Did It Again

I Did It Again had been scratched from Rockhampton on Wednesday in preference for this race and we are sticking with him. His form speaks for itself, given he has won his last four starts in style. From the outside alley in the five horse field, trainer and jockey Trinity Bannon will take him straight to the front under the top weight and should prove too hard to reel in over the 1000m. This will be five straight wins for the ex-Victorian.

Next Best – Race 6 #5 Cash Raider

Steve Massingham’s in-form grey looks hard to beat again here over 1400m in Class 6 company. The Dash For Cash six-year-old has won two on the trot, with his last being a comfortable win at Cairns in this grade. He’s yet to win on rain affected going, but he has run a hole five times on the wet, so he should get through it. Justin Stanley stays aboard, and he is drawn to box seat from barrier 2. Up to 57.5kg should be an issue as he’s carried weight before. The team will be hoping he can keep the winning form going and get his first win at Townsville.

Best Value – Race 4 #1 Whits End

Whits End is having his first start for new trainer Graham Hughes here on Friday after being moved on from the Garnett Taylor stable on the Sunshine Coast. Having placed twice from six starts including a third at Rockhampton and a second at the Sunshine Coast on December 20 when 2L off Woody Wood Duck on a Soft 5. The form he brings north looks a touch better than what some of these maidens have been going around in, so it might be a nice race for him to breakthrough in. We’d expect to see Scott Sheargold take him to the front and he should be too good. He should also offer some nice value at the best racing bookmakers.
