Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted January 17, 2021 Journalists Share Posted January 17, 2021 MIDNIGHT BOURBON (c, 3, Tiznow-Catch the Moon, by Malibu Moon) hit the ground running from the inside stall and led them a merry chase in Saturday’s GIII Lecomte S. at the Fair Grounds. Last seen finishing a distant third to stablemate and Eclipse Award finalist Jackie’s Warrior (Maclean’s Music) in the GI Champagne S. at Belmont Oct. 10, the $525,000 Keeneland September yearling won the sprint to the first turn while racing in about the two path and set a moderate pace of :24.68 for the opening quarter and :48.99 to the half-mile. Still cruising along with Proxy (Tapit) and favored ‘TDN Rising Star’ Mandaloun (Into Mischief) chasing from second and third, respectively, Midnight Bourbon cut the corner into the stretch still traveling strongly and proved not for catching. Proxy outgamed Mandaloun for second. Midnight Bourbon is the fourth graded stakes winner for his dam, who has also accounted for GISW Girvin (Tale of Ekati), Cocked and Loaded (Colonel John) and Pirate’s Punch (Shanghai Bobby). Catch the Moon is the dam of a now 2-year-old Curlin colt that fetched $500,000 at last year’s Keeneland September sale and a yearling colt by Quality Road. Midnight Bourbon is the 82nd stakes winner and 46th graded winner for the pensioned Tiznow. Lifetime Record: 5-2-1-2. O-Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC; B-Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings (KY); T-Steve Asmussen.
