Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted February 13, 2021 Journalists Share Posted February 13, 2021 Maxfield (c, 4, Street Sense–Velvety, by Bernardini) remained undefeated with another impressive performance in Saturday's GIII Mineshaft S. at Fair Grounds. The 3-5 favorite leapt at the start and caboosed the field of six over a track playing kindly to frontrunners. The Godolphin homebred began to advance on the outside down the backstretch, revved up while three wide approaching the quarter pole and showed his class down the lane to win going away by four lengths. Sonneman (Curlin) was second; Chess Chief (Into Mischief) was third. The final time for 1 1/16 miles was 1:43.67. Winner of the 2019 GI Claiborne Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland, he made only two starts at three, capturing the GIII Matt Winn S. in May and resurfaced to add the Tenacious S. at Fair Grounds most recently in December.
