Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted February 27, 2021 Journalists Share Posted February 27, 2021 ESSENTIAL QUALITY (c, 3, Tapit–Delightful Quality, by Elusive Quality) took his perfect record to three-for-three with a decisive score in his belated seasonal bow in Oaklawn's GIII Southwest S. Saturday. Hammered down to 4-5 favoritism in a race delayed two weeks by winter weather, the Eclipse winner was away in good order from the one-hole, but sat back in a joint fifth as MGISW Jackie's Warrior (Maclean's Music) ticked off early splits of :23.52 and :48.11. Inching up into third, the Godolphin homebred swept up two-wide entering the far turn and bounded clear in the lane to win by three lengths over Spielberg (Union Rags). Tabbed a 'TDN Rising Star' off his debut win sprinting at Churchill Sept. 5, Essential Quality captured the GI Claiborne Breeders' Futurity S. at Keeneland Oct. 3. He rallied to victory in Lexington again in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile, clinching the Eclipse award for juvenile male. Lifetime Record: 4-4-0-0. O/B-Godolphin LLC (KY); T-Brad Cox.
