Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted February 28, 2021 Journalists Share Posted February 28, 2021 Punt Drunk Daily – 28/2/21 Morning Punters, and welcome to a grim edition of Punt Drunk. The Saturday on the punt is supposed to be what brings us up each weekend, but deadset outside of Verry Elleegant what a shitshow it was. Lunar Fox destroyed our hopes in the Australian Guineas when the thing won at bloody $251!!! Favourites such as Dame Giselle, Tagaloa, Zakat, Great House and Buffalo River failed to get the job done. But it was a deadset fill up job for the bookies as winners seemed to salute a $20+ in most races around the country. Let’s recap a crazy half an hour we encountered yesterday! A $151 in a Group 1? Seen it all now UMMMMMM! LUNAR FOX HAS WON THE AUSTRALIAN GUINEAS AT $139.50! pic.twitter.com/0Eh3TpLwGp — 7HorseRacing (@7horseracing) February 27, 2021 You thought 2020 was bad? Imagine watching a $151 shot take out the Group 1 Australian Guineas that was beaten a combined 30 lengths in his last three starts! If you were on Cherry Tortoni you deserve to feel sick. Tagaloa and Zou Dancer were both below average and to be honest we are still trying to pick our jaw up off the floor. It is a superb training performance from Paul Preusker who managed to put behind two consecutive 13 length defeats in the Moonee Valley Vase in the spring and then the CS Hayes Stakes a fortnight ago. It’s enough to make you want to vomit. If you managed to find the winner then fair play to you! But we call bullshit. What a finish in the Chipping Norton Stakes UNBELIEVABLE! WHAT. A. RACE. VERRY ELLEEGANT WINS A THRILLING CHIPPING NORTON STAKES! pic.twitter.com/qTFoTbWpzp — 7HorseRacing (@7horseracing) February 27, 2021 About 20 minutes after Lunar Fox made all our jaws drop to the floor, a jaw dropping finish occurred at Randwick for all the right reasons! Three quarters of a length separated the first five across the line with Verry Elleegant proving too tough in the concluding stages to hold out her market rival Colette. The win by Verry Elleegant gave trainer Chris Waller his ninth win in the race, obviously helped by Winx winning the race four times! This win will mean just as much, having had this superstar mare on a two mile campaign last prep and managed to bring her back to the 1600m with great aplomb. It is no wonder why he is the best trainer in Sydney! Anyone nail the quaddie? Mainly thanks to Lunar Fox the Flemington quaddie paid a whopping $530,082 on the local tote. You would think that no favourites won a leg in the quaddie but Star Of The Seas and Chaillot both won at $3.90 yet it was Lunar Fox and Capriccio ($41) who made sure the quaddie paid an absurd price! Fair bloody play to you if you got a slice of the $530,000 and if you did manage to land it let us know using #PuntDrunk on our socials! Sunday’s Racing Tips – February 28, 2021 Sunshine Coast Racing Tips Ballarat Racing Tips Punt Drunk’s best bet of the day Having chased home the impressive Master Of Zerprise at Morphettville a fortnight ago, the Grant Young trained looked perfectly placed to bring up his second win of the campaign. Expect to see him settling towards the rear of the field but he should be powering home late and be too god for this lot.
